I recognize this from watching "The Dig" on Netflix last night...
Thanks for the very good picture. I have admired this, and similar buckles, for a long time, but this is the first time that I can see that it is the buckle that swivels and not the spur, which, I assume,rotates. With such a fine piece of personal adornment, you would not want to cover it up with the tongue of the belt, which suggests that a sort of overhand knot was used. The leather would need to be supple and must have needed to be replaced often.
