Had made a Tailstock pressure plate for friction holding a 6" polyethilene and be able to turn it external diameter.

So simple. So clever. So brilliant. Thank you. I have a 6" diameter aluminum plate
that I have pondered how to mount on my old Atlas 618 lathe to machine down
and your design and holding it with the 4 jaw chuck extended is perfect.
I added some rosin to the plate and it insures high friction. The rosin application
comes from instructions for rifle barrel removal where the barrel is held in a
vise-block of hardwood with rosin*. Then when torque is applied by the barrel removing
tool there is no slippage. Best wishes.

You have beaten me to it I was going to post the same thing, I have one a little smaller in dia that I use for machining steel plates. It also can provide extra support when you do not want a centre. Still pays to keep your head out of the way.
Double sided tape can be useful.

I believe the first time I seen anything that resembled that was Marv's tail stock alignment tools. They were a little bit smaller but one in the chuck and the other one on the live center tail stock. Very nice and there is another toy I gotta to have.

i remember needing something like that 10 years ago, i walked out in my backyard picked up a 4 inch long 2x4 held it in place ,ran the live center forward creating a center hole and presto done !! total time ?? one minute .. cost ? nothing.guys just because u can make something out of metal doesnt mean u need too.only so many hours in a day, and so much room in your shop..KISS keep it simple stupid.
