The head end of a parallelogram doesn't draw a straight line or stay vertical - it tilts in relation to, and moves away from and toward the base as it travels. If it's square at 90* it can't be square at any other position. It would have to have some sort of compensation mechanism to remain square in all positions.

A parallelogram does what it says on the label. The opposite sides remain parallel to each other, so in this case if it starts out vertical it will do so through its range.
