    Tapping stand

Rather than building a new base with a column (that finally takes up space in the workshop), for this project, I decided to borrow the Dremel drill stand, which can serve a number of purposes.

I used a collet chuck extensión rod with interchangeable spring collets, according to the diameter of the tap, driven by a tap handle.

I built the horizontal arm out of wood; in the first attempt, drilling the holes for the bearings on both sides, and then the hole for the shaft, the result was bad, the drill bit was not perpendicular to the base. On the second try, drill both holes, complete, from the same face of the wood block, then insert a spacer to set the bearings, resulting in a perpendicular drill bit in both directions.

It's already tested and works fine.
    Regrets.

Thanks, wisard69. I must say that the Dremel stand is still perfectly functional, so it can do both jobs.

When I did it, other options for the base and column were precisely an old drill base (which still works), a column salvaged from a hand orange juicer, and a column salvaged from a photographic enlarger, but in the end I decided on the dremel stand.

The horizontal arm was made of wood, although ideally it would be made of iron or aluminum.
