Temporary Tailstock Fix for Worn Morse Taper

The internal Morse taper bore to my tailstock needs to be repaired due to uneven wearing. The drill chuck with a Morse taper adapter has a tendency to slip while doing heavy drilling. I plan to use a Morse taper No. 3 fine cut reamer to clean-up the high and low spots to fix this problem. In the mean time I have been using a single layer of 20 lbs computer printer paper rolled around the drill chuck's Morse taper adapter. The paper layer grabs just enough to prevent any turning and allows the chuck to stayed aligned in the tail stock. I included a couple of photos of the improvement.

Nice! That tip ought to come in handy. One time, I had a similar slippage problem with a bar end shifter that kept on turning even fully tightened. My solution was to wrap some fine sandpaper (abrasive side out) on the offending piece and retighten. Problem solved!

Yesterday, I finally got around to removing from the tailstock the drill chuck and MT adapter wrapped with the paper shim. The adapter was in there so tightly that I had to take the tailstock ram completely out and use a drive punch to from the other end to remove it. I think this technique worked a little too well! I then use a Morse taper No. 3 fine reamer to "clean-up" the tailstock taper and it now holds the tools without any slippage.
