In my much younger days, a fire below the Perkin diesel in my Iron Mule was not a unique experience. But life sure got a lot better when I installed a couple of quick disconnects in my pick up's heater hoses and caught a couple of connections on the Perkins' block. I could warm it, grease it, fuel it and jump start it all without moving the truck! (No more burned wires and hoses...)

    old kodger's Tools
Back in the 60's 24hr tow truck drivers had a thing marketed as a "Gulf Stream". It was an electrical element that went into a specially supplied bottom hose and plugged into the 240 volt mains, pulled bugger all amps but was enough to keep the truck up to working temp so that when you had to crawl out of bed at 2 o'clock in the morning you just unplugged it at the truck and didn't have to wait for everything to warm up before you could turn on the heater.
