    Hi machining4all
    What people have to understand we don't all have deep pockets and massive space to house every piece of machinery needed so we have to adapt ideas and equipment. So as far as I am concerned we make tools, jigs, fixtures and any other equipment to suit our needs and for our own projects and pleasure. By sharing on HMT it hopefully provokes thoughts on how to utilise ideas or simple help others with less experience. I have also stopped posting on HMT but have decided to give it another chance and I hope you do the same. My dividing head can do spiral milling but again a very expensive piece of tooling that not everyone would want to purchase.

    Hi Saltfever

    Unfortunately I don't look at the stats I could have been thanked a million times and it wouldn't make a difference. I am not after any sympathy or credit I enjoy parting my knowledge and ideas to help others as well as learning new things from this forum. But I will explain my own personal issues to help people understand where I am coming from.

    I suffer with very bad anxiety, so posting on any forum is or can be a big issue for me. Yes I have had more positive comments than negative comments(a lot more with only a couple of negative comments in the time I have been a member of HMT). I don't mind constructive criticism or advice but sometimes it can be very negative for my wellbeing.

    Example: posted a kindle splitter with adjustable wheels to be told 'you have some nice ankle knockers there' I have never had any correspondence with the person who made this comment, yes it could have been meant as a joke but I think you need to get to know someone before a comment is posted like that.

    This forum has a wealth of talent at multiple levels and I can honestly say that you can gain ideas from all posts to improve, adapt or even copy to improve our own home workshops.

    Don't get me wrong I have worked in some harsh environments where joking is cutting but at least this is face to face with people you get to know overtime and not from people you have never had any contact with who know nothing about you and your situation.

    I am not the greatest at explaining but hope this helps with a little more understanding how people with mental health issues can see that the most innocent comment or something meant as joke can effect them. I am also sure there are some people reading this thinking just suck it up and grow a pair.

    However this is a great forum and I am now in a better place and will start to post again on HMT

    Again thank you to all the positive comments I have received and the 1502 thanks I have been given in the past.

    I also have anxiety disorder and take medication for it which makes me feel normal. Even so I have never been that comfortable around groups of people. I have never been outgoing and extroverted. This is the only group or forum that I belong to and I really do think that overall these guys are very nice and loaded with unique and useful ideas. I am happy to have you in our group.

    The cognitive bias to overweigh negative events is well-documented: Negativity bias. There are interesting theories proposed for the presence of the bias, from human evolution to loss aversion to child development.

    The bias is being exacerbated and, in some cases, exploited (mainstream news media comes to mind) in the internet era. Some solutions are: positivity logging metrics (like Thanks votes), increasing exposure to positive events (like re-reading complimentary replies) or complete avoidance of persistently negative media sources.

    Positivity reinforcement is a very worthwhile practice. It affects the way we think and therefore feel. I can chose to occupy my mind with positive or negative thoughts-the choice of how I think and feel is all mine.

    Tell yourself you can do it, and talk yourself through doing it, step by step. I taught that to my special ed students, and my neurotypical students. And I've used it myself for decades. Do it out loud if you need to. I also told them that talking to yourself is not a problem, so long as you don't get in an argument with yourself and lose.

    I have that choice too. Hence I'm very privileged today, and hopefully tomorrow.
    There's been some times when I didn't have that privilege of choice.
    There are also some people that cannot even see that as a viable option at certain points or times in life.
