At speed no less! Still, for older folks with shaking hands and / or bad eyes, could be useful with needles this large.

~ 2 weeks ago, handstitched replacement strap& buckle for my appliance dolly. What I noticed was less about the needle eye or vision, more on the poor quality of thread the kit supplied. Decent thread is very smooth, a small version of cord. The poor versions are just plain fuzzy, clearly visible, to point the twist isn't apparent. That makes threading difficult, may as well be twine or yarn.
Wouldn't call my self accomplished tailor etc, but handsewn countless military insignia onto uniforms. It's a frequent occurrence onboard Navy ships, there being a large crew and only one or two manning the uniform shop, so obviously collected a fee for quick turnaround.
    Sincerely,

I think that I will try with a finer brush and a smaller needle.
