Tool and cutter grinder stone bushing

Hi All

I bought some cheap diamond stones from China for my tool and cutter grinder but they are supplied without plastic bushings. The wheels are 20 mm diameter and the grinder shaft is ½”. I have been working on a project which needs some special cutters making, so at last I have had to make a bushing so the wheels can be mounted on the grinder. I could have sourced and purchased some but a 20 minute job to make one from steel I couldn’t see the point.

This is a very simple turning and drilling exercise and will last.

I have purchased a spin indexer which I will be using to make the cutters so once this arrives I will post the modifications I intend to make to it to mount on the grinder.

I had a very difficult time finding dressing stones for diamond wheels
If you have a source that’s cost-effective I would appreciate knowing it

Hi Ray
Thank you for your interest. The wheels are standard wheels you can purchase from EBay. These are suitable for tungsten carbide. I paid £21 for 3 deep cup wheels and £12 for 3 cup wheels. So these are not dressing stones as I think you are after as in dressing a diamond wheel?
I hope I have this correct

Hi Ray
This may help. We used a lot of diamond and CBN wheels and they will become loaded and blackened like any abrasive wheels, cleaning was simply an 80 grit white alkoxide stone used lightly freehand. As for truing a new wheel, if properly mounted they are usually pretty good as supplied and will soon bed in with use, this can be hastened buy a few passes over a carborundum sharpening stone.
