    Toolmaker’s clamp modification, filing accessory

Yesterday, I was filing a square hole in a washer, held in my vice. I could just about manage this. But this morning I remembered an unsatisfactory clamp I have (one of the threads was damaged). So, why not use it so it could hold a small item in the vice?

All my homemade clamps have one jaw extended to provide a gripping area so they can be used in the bench vise.

It's an extremely handy feature to keep in mind when making clamps.

Yo, dawg, I heard you like a vise in your vise, so we made you a vise with a vise with a vise in it...
