Can anyone explain how these work?
The end of the outside screw appears to go into a threaded hole instead of a blind hole, so it can only spread the clamping tips, not close them.

These are dual threaded on one side but to use them both screws will need adjusted in tandem to squeeze or clamp on your work piece, I do not have the end captive in one side like mose professional designed parallel clamps, (Starret etc.) These were my attempt at making a clamp and using Autocad for the first time.

Looking at the video the holes are not dual threaded on one side. They actually have a clearance hole and a tapped hole reversed in each jaw.

Thanks for the explanation. With this type of clamp, the centre screw only sets the " thickness " to be clamped while keeping the jaws parallel with the outside clamping screw, as you suggest. Final clamping is then achieved by tightening the outside clamping screw, slightly opening the jaws at the opposite end to the clamping end. This gives the clamps the leverage to close the clamping end with a large force.


If the clamping screw on the end of your jaws is tightened, it pulls the jaws together at that end, therefore opening the clamping end instead of closing it.


I think the only way yours will work, if at all, is if the clamping is done only with the centre screw. This will have a significantly lower force with no extra mechanical advantage; the outside screw will have no effect at all. The whole clamp will therefore act as a strap clamp on a mill table without a packer at the opposite end.
