I did something similar to a top of the range BMW with my Land-Rover 110, stopped by a Police officer who 'requested' my assistance to clear a motorway as their small car couldn't move the BMW, tore the towing point and front cross-member it was part of off the car, turned out the BMW driver having switched off the ignition had locked the gearbox in park as an anti-theft precaution, only by starting the engine would it disengage, engine had a 'leg out of bed' and couldn't even be turned over. Finally recovered with skates onto a flat-bed taxi and written off...
