Tractor gear shift cover cup.
A Ford 2600 arrived last night for a temporary swap for my Case 431
Both tractors are near equals in power output but the Ford is lighter and shorter also a foot lower in height.
My case has a medium duty 6 ft shredder mower, the Ford has a much heavier duty 5 ft brush hog shredder mower.
The Ford has foam filled front tires, something that is appreciated in the mesquite brush I need to cut.
However the ford had a gear shift problem we noticed while unloading it and there was water contamination in the transmission oil.
the gear shift lever just needed a bit of weld build up to fix that problem, And while I had it apart I decided to cure the water getting in the transmission problem by making a new cupped cover to replace the missing one on the gear shift lever.
I started with a fat of about 1/8" thick heated it up and bet it to about 1/16" thick then heated it up and shaped it into a cupped shape with the punch and die I made for that purpose

I pushed a rubber sleeve down onto the shaft

the factory spring keeper forces the shift lever to stay in place but the added rubber sleeve will further prevent water contamination
