It was great when I worked in the Alberta oil patch. Driving home in the middle of winter there would alway be some lunatic that would pass a line of traffic going a million miles an hour in terrible conditions. Quite a number of times you'd see them 20 miles down the road upside down in the ditch. Well I'm sure that was worth saving a few minutes. The risk/reward calculation is just completely broken in most people's brains.
I've been watching those parkour videos lately. Guys will run full speed and do a backflip through the air from the roof of one tall building on to the roof of another tall building. Now what's the risk/reward look like on that. Risk? You fall off the roof of a 6 story building and die. Reward? You can put a video on Tik Tok.
