    Neat. How would they get into a situation where they needed this?

    Also wouldn't those wheels need to be resurfaced?

    derailments can be caused by many things in a switch yard a dodgy rail switch is a huge culprit. Your are not likely to be re-railing loaded freight cars with this rig, at least not very many in a string. Trolley cars or light rail commuter cars may be another story.
    there probably would be no need for resurfacing the wheels from a derailment that left the cars up right rolling on the sleepers
