I blame the hiker.

He sure didn't miss that idiot, suppose he couldn't have done it better if he tried, eh. :-)

The best part of hiking is enjoying the sounds of nature, even with headphones he ignored the chain saw. I can't believe he didn't hear it. :headscratch:

Some people get so cuaght up on what ever it is they are listening to and can completely forget there is more to the world than the sounds in their headphones.

So if a tree falls in the forest and no one is there to hear it, does the Sierra Club still get pissed...

I don't see any headphones. But I do have another perspective on this.... What if the hiker is deaf and blind in one eye? Granted, he should have better situational awareness! Any old Boyscouts on this site? Remember the rules for felling a tree or working with an ax? The lumberjack is concentrating on his cutting and I have no doubt his saw is screaming but he is also low to the ground and not easily seen.

If he didn't hear the tree fall on him, was he actually injured?
