You would want to be very carefull when turning a corner, that amount of rear overhang could cause some real serious damage.

In Australia, you would be locked up for doing something as stupid as that.

Yep, the same goes for here. It would be called excessive illegal extension to the rear with a divisible load.

Back during the 1980s I started a dock and marina construction company, with a couple of others. We needed 2 more 2ftx4ftb16ft. urethane encased Styrofoam floatation blocks to complete a marina we were finishing up. Doug volunteered to drive the 300-mile round trip in his little Mazda pickup and haul them on top of the ladder rack 10 hours later he returned pale as a ghost. he said about 30 to 35MPH was as fast as he felt comfortable driving because every time a puff of wind or another vehicle passed him it felt like he was being sucked into the vehicle or blown off the road by the wind, several times he was sure that he was a goner when his little truck was on 2 wheels. Oh well, we told him to take the 3/4 ton and a trailer.

Only thing I see wrong with it is he's missing the safety flag at the rear of the load that makes everything OK.

And it's still only half the load capacity of the truck!
