There's a saying in the aviation world - "If it looks ugly, it probably won't fly well."
-
With enough power you can make a barn door fly...

They actually have a large flying scale model of it, and the model flys reasonably well. It's just a variant of a flying wing, which (theoretically) should be the most efficient fixed-wing flying form. We're just used to seeing cigar tubes with wings, so they look "right."

are those "scale" models also weight scaled?

They're apparently making those 'wings' thick enough, to seat passengers in. And, unless they're planning on the passengers 'crawling' in, those wings will be like having 2 cigar tubes, flying sideways through the air. I cant wrap my head around the aerodynamics of a wing that thick, or the power of thrust needed to fly with all the extra 'drag' those wings could represent. (Just my thoughts.)
