The terrible thing is that even less is most likely the cause. In downtown Ottawa they were boring a tunnel for light rail and they hit a water main. The news called it a cave in / sinkhole. I had friends that were involved in the fix. Every available cement truck was dumping into this hole for over a day. Guaranteed that the lump of cement cracked and overheated. To big to pour without cooling. But all they wanted was something solid to core a hole through.

In support of the engineers, 2 degrees off 3 miles back would be a deviation of 553 feet.

Just 2 seconds off 3 miles back (60 seconds to a minute and 60 minutes to a degree) would be about 2 inches off (1.841 inches.)

Pretty amazing what they are able to do.
