You probably know there is a opening between the spindle and round column underneath. I installed a bright LED lamp assembly and powered it off one leg of the 240vac supply.

I hope you tramed the mill in too!! I have one of those 1975 model year enco.not a lotta use when i got it as it needed tramed in and I recko they didnt know how and just didnt use it too much or just for light duty stuff. still looks like new now in my shop, I put dro's on it, used it quite a bit, then got my biger bridport mill so that old one is just sitting.I thought about adding cnc to it.I get bal screws, but never got any farther. you could also use ball screws for what your doing.Im not sure I would trust the rack&pinion for a lot of that power unit usage.especialy if you happen to forget to unlock it......I do like your thinking!!! keep it up!!!

Tramming the mill requires shims on the base, not a easy task.

Thanks for the comment. I know by the way it's cutting that I have some minor tram issues. It's on my to do list. Yeah, I worry about the worm gear lift too although it was in great shape. The speed of the drill is not much faster that hand cranking but not doubt I wont hesitate to move the head like I used to. It will get a lot more use.

just check it, eazy to check., be sure you keep the pinion shaft oiled so it dont gaul it's self on the iron casting.I dont recal there being a bush there but I think there is a oiling lication with the spring ball thingy.I would us a mix of moly lube and syn oil. Ive seen a few diferent versions of this mildrill,I used one at work daily for almost 20 years before I get mine. and it was 4 years newer. the hand feed was actuated differently than mine is. but other than that the same as far as I can tell.Ive done a lot of stuff on theses mills.balancing pistons, flycutting pistons, drilling crank shafts for tungston and oh somuch more.I even reconfigured mine into a seat&guide machine for reworking cylinder heads. as well as boring cases&heads for bigger cylinders.

It sounds like you have use your mill a lot! I will say, aside from the round column they seem to do pretty good. Thanks for the reminder on the pinion!
