Universal cut knurling tool - video
-
Great and very good looking build!
Guess it should rather be called a "Shear Knurler", as it cuts by the shearing motion of the wheel's angle @ 30 or 45 degrees?
Also, doesn't the angle reduce the 0.8 mm wheel pitch to 0.566 for the 45 deg and to 0.69 @ 30 deg?
Guess the cutting side face could perhaps benefit from a small "dish", grinding it with a diamond burr to get some "rake angle",
when knurling harder, ferrous materials than merely brass and aluminum...
Just two+one "Quick" thoughts.
Cheers
Johan

The 'knurls' are so neat that I guess too that it is not 'displacement'. Conventional displacement has the disadvantage of large tool forces. So a cutting knurl would be very interesting to study. Ulrich

Today I called the german manufacturer of these wheels and asked for a basic instruction sheet (geometry) and they were less than helpful. They didn't understand or pretended not to understand. Got a catalog with some technical hints in it from DIYSwede. He must have smelled the rat. Thank you.
