    Hi Gang:
    While not made of timbers, I put in an alternate step industrial stair to save space.

    It is easier to climb that a ladder and half the run of a regular stair. The black strip protects you from the corners of the steps if you slip.

    Even she was screwed up by her first step, these are alternate steps, one side for people that make the fist step with their left foot, and the other for the right foot. Sounds like they are in China. These have been used in compacted floor space steps, but need building authority approval.
    These steps in the photo, have been there for a long time, and the building was upgraded around them, or so it looks from the floor treatment, some polishing by feet sliding wear.
