Using an analog watch as a compass - photo
-
I didn't know you could still buy an analog watch. I read somewhere, they had to take them out of classrooms at some school, because non of the kids knew how to tell what time it was without a digital clock.

I’ve tried teaching this to people and get the response, “but I wear a digital watch”. Are they really to lazy to draw a clock face on the ground?

On Survival Russia Lars showed how at his latitude this didn't work at all. Before depending on ANY device or method, practice it in advance to make sure it works and you know how to do it.

There is a formula, adding or subtracting minutes and / or seconds,to compensate for seasonal changes that is accurate almost to the degree but for the life of me I don't remember it. I got it from a book titled BUSHCRAFT published since about mid 70's. It is about survival and backwoods skills.

I heard that if you grind up a Neodymium Magnet and blend it in an Iron rich smoothy and drink one a week for a month of Blue Sundays you can develop the homing sense of a Carrier Pigeon.

Standard time or daylight saving time?
