    I have a Leroy lettering set like the from my father-in-law. He was REALLY good with it.

    How do they adjust the kerning? Is it all done by eye or is their an index mark they use?

    if you look at the bottom of the template strip, you see graduation marks. You use those marks along with a reference mark on whatever you are using for a guide strip. Using those marks, like on a typewriter, all of the letters take the same space. When you are good, like my father in law was, you make adjustments for narrow vs wide characters.
