My dad drug in an old Harley 45 when I was a youngster then pushed it behind one of the sheds and laid it on its side.
Son when you can pick it up and put down the kick stand then and only then are you to try and get it running. After I finally got it up on the kick stand it took me months to get it running but the crowing moment was the day I rode it the 8 miles to school on gravel and sand roads when I started the 8th grade. I rode it for about a week then he sold it and drug in a busted triumph 650. for me to tinker with I saw the patter real quick so I had some money saved up and went down and bought a Honda scrambler 90

Yep he never bought me a car or a bike but I would work on them along with him. sometimes I might drive or ride them a week or a month then they always came up sold. when I bought something and fixed it up I rode it or drove it until the wheels turned square then pushed it off to the side and used it for parts or until I found parts to get it going again. when I went into the Army a few months after turning 17 I owned an acre full of old cars pickups motorcycles and tractors. After getting stationed as permanent party on the same Ft where I had taken basic and my MOS AIT training me and a Sgt friend of mine negotiated to buy the inventory of a defunct motorcycle shop hauled all of the junk bikes to his house. rented a u Haul trailer and went to my parents home then loaded up all of my junk bikes and the couple that ran. Since I had gotten married my wife and I rented half his house from him. He and I would work evenings and weekends when ever we had time available to fix up a few bikes and sold them We were both making nearly as much on the side as either of our Army pay was. This lasted about 6 moths until H came down on orders to Germany, Shortly thereafter I took an early reenlistment to leave Ft Polk but by them we were down to 1 running bike between us and a couple of cars and a little scrap.
