A Very Old Trick: Easy Degreasing of your Hands

Yes, liquid soap and water will clean the grease off of your hands but it can take a lot of scrubbing. An easier way is to "wash" your hands in just liquid soap. Work it into your hands so they are evenly coated. Use no water. The soap will dry on your hands and be flexible.

When it is time to clean up, rinse your hands in water. The gunge attached to the layer of soap will melt away.

As Rick says liquid soap is as good as anything but if you want to wash your hands right away ie preparing food just add a small amount of granulated sugar, the grit will clean much faster and wont clog your sink as it quickly dissolves.

Another cleaning trick is if you have something you need to scrub the inside of, dump in some powdered cleanser and then a handful of crushed ice. Shake vigorously and pour out. Rinse.

    Learned it from a waitress.

for degreasing hands, I used to use dish liquid - if it cuts grease in the kitchen, it works on my hands as well. I still use that trick, but I have also taken to using "simple green" directly, and one of those citrus grit liquid soaps (Champion HT-100) and had good success with that as well.

Rick's suggestions about letting soap dry on your hands is a trick used for camping as well.. wipe the outside of your camp cooking gear with detergent, and let it dry... then when you wash the gear, the accumulated soot, etc falls away easier.

You could just use barrier cream. Been working well for me for forty years.
