Hello everyone,
I have been lurking and viewing site for about 12 months now and this is my first post (hence the "veteran nubee" title 🙂. About five years ago I suffered a crippling life-changing disability (CRPS) that left me unable to work and forced me into an early retirement and made me rethink the course of my remaining years. In another lifetime I was a commercial journeyman electrician, software entrepreneur, over-priced gub'ment consultant and thrash metal drummer - not necessarily in that order or at the same time. I like to think of myself as a drummer that had some other jobs
Over the past years of contemplation I have decided to focus my ever declining creative efforts on woodworking. I am most interested in hand tooling and antique tools (not necessarily collecting & restoration, but the use of older tools), and making my own tools. Due to my physical limitations I will attempt to adopt a hybrid style utilizing power tools when necessary and handtooling when able.
After working out of several tarp covered "structures" for the past few years (imagine a scaled down Barter Town from Mad Max), I am currently (finally) having my workshop built which I affectionately call ThunderDome, or as my best lady likes to call it, "the storage shed". Although we've reached a compromise, 30% storage 70% workshop (or is it the other way around? I'm not sure. Must be the meds 😜. I am just developing a list of projects and accumulating tools and am looking forward to filling/building the interior which is currently a blank slate existing only on some graph paper, napkins & post-its right now.
I am truly excited to have found this community because of all the fantastic creators, innovators, and builders here. In the future I hope to contribute some of my projects and finished works whatever they maybe. Sorry for the long intro (all typos courtesy of talk-to-text auto type) and I just don't get out too much anymore. Cheers!
