    Vickers Wellington minesweeping aircraft - GIF

    Vickers Wellington DWI Mark I minesweeping aircraft. A variant of the long-range medium bomber fitted with a loop-shaped electrical generator mounted under the fuselage.

    Um, the loop wasn't a generator in itself, but instead a giant electromagnet for the "Wellington DWI" version's mine-sweeping ability,
    by actually giving the german mines a magnetic trigger while the a/c being "out of harms" way (at some 35 ft above the sea...).

    This magnetic loop, though wound outta aluminium wire was still weighing over two tons,
    and was driven by a Ford V8 powering a Mawdsley generator.
