    Lightbulb Viewing heat on your lathe

    With a thermal camera you can have a whole new perspective of the world around you. In the picture below you can literally see hot chips flying off the workpiece on my (not yet finished ) DIY mini lathe. This is the main way heat leave the workpiece, and it is clearly visible from those bright sparks.

    I have visualized heat of the spindle from ball bearing friction, the belt and motors. And of course I also investigated further, ending up to discover a serious potential fault in the photovoltaic breaker (that if not detected could lead to a fire!) in my house.
