Whose knuckleheaded idea was it to saddle us with mechanical jacks when that simple solution was available?

Back pressure from the exhaust system is bad for the engine. That is why they aren't common these days. Used to have one that you pulled a plug, and hooked up the jack to the missing plug port. That one filled the jack with a mix of gasoline vapor and air. Didn't think too highly of that, either.
