I had a 1948 Tappan Visimatic stove like the one in the picture. It was bullet proof! I had a guy from the gas company help install it (my father-in-law). When he went to calibrate the oven, he turned it on and checked the temp. It was within 1 degree of the dial! Of the four burners, one of them had a mixture that was slightly off, otherwise it was perfect. The burner covers fit into the inside of the two side doors. They had a nice decoration on the underside and doubled as serving trays. The oven lining was chrome. It had a nice deep broiler and lots of pan storage in the sides with wire baskets for smaller items. We had that stove for 12 years and used it every day. We sold it for $700 which was a couple hundred dollars more than it was new and $600 more than we bought it for. It was in rough shape but after a few weeks of cleaning (including a mouse nest) it looked like new. no pitted chrome and the lights in the back and oven worked. If the side hadn't been scratched up by the previous owner, it might have gone for $1000 or more. It was complete and everything worked including the scrolling baking guide that had times and temperatures for a lot of common dishes in the 50's like pot roast, ham, casseroles etc. That was one of the items that frequently broke on those stoves.
