As insulation it will be great will offer some sound deadening from the other side but if the idea is for full acoustical deadening, they will have to put 2" cork or pyramid foam rubber over the drywall
Never try to tell me it can't be done

This foam is a closed cell foam. Very little sound absorption. Sound isolation is either reflection via a high mass membrane like a wall, isolation via hermetic seal, or adiabatic absorption. A fancy name for sound vibrating something and turning that vibration into a little bit of heat. The best absorbers have a combination of fiberous materials, Rockwool, fibreglass, wool, polyester. Rockwool has the widest sound absorption bandwidth of these three. Foams like the pyramid types are great for the human voice range, and the range where our hearing uses echos to locate the space we are inside of. Thickness has a lot to do with the lower frequency absorption. That can be worked around by having a drum type membrane that moves in tune with the bass frequency you want to absorb.
