That looked like a rifle barrel he was polishing. It is an innovative way to do it so that it gets evenly polished its entire length.

Could the gloves be for heat? Polishing can create a good deal of heat.

Right idea, but having an item - the plate - around your NECK so close to the high speed polisher is an unnecessary risk. Mount the bearings close to the wheel directly to the machine - add a safety shieled top and bottom in case it JUMPS of the spinning wheel and then, I might endorse it.

Gives me more appreciation for things that are processed that way.

Can you imagine doing the same thing (very minor thing at that) all day long? I'd go bonkers.

I feel like much of the ideas about how to make this safer are forgetting why this work appears to be done in a less developed country in the first place...$

I was impressed the workers were using masks.

OSHA approved right??? HA HA To me it's an unsafe way of doing something... If some how the plate got hooked up with a downward force the bottom brace on the belly gadget could remove your jewel sack for you... With out to much work one could build a spring loaded moveable arm coming off the base of the polish motor to do what he doing with his belly...
