weld splatter protection sleeve
When a stub shaft needs to be welded to a parent part the surface must be protected from weld splatter
I have several .590" dia stubs hafts that need welded to a member
So I made this little aluminum cover to protect them

Don't forget thermal expansion and contractions...
In the past, I have done similar. Had a very thin tube to be tig welded to something so I put an aluminum core to hold the parts together and I had hoped keep the kid welding from burning through the steel. It worked, but I ended up having to turn the core out with a lathe as the kid got it too hot and the aluminum got stuck to the tube. He tried to remove the core and it fractured leaving part deep inside, it would have been any issue anyways but he tried taking it apart too soon while the aluminum was still expanded...... Luckily I could put the entire part in the lathe to get the aluminum out.
