We don't have 5-star generals here, we have whoever got there first or contributed more! There is no one so smart who knows everything and there is no one so stupid that I cannot teach something new! We are in a free forum, anyone can help!

    Hmmm. Definite points for unconventionality!
As stated before, this thing is only maybe 1 1/2 inches wide with each dial being roughly the size of a US Quarter.
Not nearly large enough for an integral part in scorekeeping. Again, it could be used to keep track of anything from 00-99 but I am wondering what it was originally manufactured for. It is such an arbitrary concept and such a simple design. Perhaps its from a game, but why so small and difficult to see. Its not interesting or whimsical to look at, plus, it was designed with mounting holes. Surely someone has seen this same thing before!!!

Is it possible to post a photo with the object in hand? Does the object have no mark?

Not for the date, just foundry info. The thing would burn away...

Is this a best guess, or have you seen the exact thing in that context? I'd be happy to put this to rest!!!

No. The device mounts to the pattern. Hot metal never come into contact with it.

I have seen that exact device, or rather the result on a casting, I just can't remember where I saw one. I have worked in the foundry industry over 30 years.

The number would be used to indicated a coded date such as Julian, or with 2 digits possibly just week of the year with a separate digit to indicate the year of production.
