What's on your workbench
I thought it would be fun to see what everyone is currently working on, be it simply a collection of materials and a plan, or WIP, post it here :)
I'll start things off, currently on my workbench is the planetary pulley wheel from my Dore Westbury Mk1 milling machine:

Haven't made any chips with my mill yet as she was in need of some TLC when I bought her. I'm now getting pretty exited as she's very close to working condition again :)

Any chance of a bit more information about the gearbox? I ask because I would like to build a simple add-on gearbox to fit my mill/drill.

I will do my best, though I'm not the original maker of this mill, what is it you need to know?

The little I know is that it is a two speed gearbox as part of the pulley on the quill. I was wondering how the gear change is made. I'm just gathering ideas at the moment. Any info at all would be appreciated.

The assembly works using two dial pins (I only have one right now, have to make another soon)
To operate at high speed, the two halves are locked together from underneath:

To engage the backgear, the two pins are use to lock the lower half in place:

There are two corresponding holes either side of the mill head for the pins to go in:

It's a neat setup and uses "off the shelf" myford gears so should be reproducible without too much drama, but I'm given to understand they can be a bit noisy.
If you want drawings, I have them for the Mk2 in PDF form, as well as the technical notes and build steps too. There's a few differences, Mk2 has a 6 stepped pulley (mine only has three), and the epicyclic gears are helical, not straight toothed, which should make it a lot quieter.

I'd love a copy of your drawings and notes if it's not to much trouble. I can imagine to sound difference in spur and helical gears too but I do own some good hearing protectors.
