They are not widening the road, as much as they are merely straightening up the edge, in a poor excuse prevent the edge of the road from crumbling. You can put all of the lipstick you want on a pig but once the smile wears off you still are stuck with a pig. Even with bonding agents and fiber infused in the mix the first time a heavy vehicle ventures too close to the edge that narrow strip of concrete will break away.

Agreed. And I didn't see any kind of doweling either, just a dirty edge not likely to bond with anything but more dirt.
