    Wimshurst machine - photo

    The Wimshurst machine is an electrostatic generator developed between 1880 and 1883 by British inventor James Wimshurst.

    I remember these in Physics lab. Great for demonstrations. This one is in beautiful condition.

    had them in my high school as well - got it working, charged up the leyden jars, and wired to the classroom doorknob... when the kid came to collect the classroll, he copped it through the door knob.
    Model Engineer had plans for building these using LP records for the 2 discs... an issue form the 1950s from memory

    I've always wanted to come up with a better way to do the reversing of the second disk, with out the use of a crossed belt. - ideas?
