That's a lot of nails and it does nothing for the finish...
The only hard wood floors I ever did were tongue and groove. Drove the nails in at the corner of the tongues used random length boards. After running a floor sander over the floor and rolling on the urethane seal coating you had to really look hard to find the joints in the boards. Grain change was the only giveaway.
Never try to tell me it can't be done
When I have to paint I use KBS products
