Good looking heavy bench.
I built two heavy benches using 2x4's glued together laying on the narrow side by side and then built a fixture to level the assembled 2x4 top with a large router bit. A lot of work.

That does look nice. But may I inject a note of caution? If using pine, or other cheap lumber, you will find, as the bench top wears, that frequently you are driving splinters under your nails! I recommend that you cover the benchtop with either Formica or aluminium.
