WWII B-17 Phantom Fortress crewless landing - video
-
I'm not buying it. No WWII vintage, battle damaged aircraft is going to land itself.
Here's a possible alternate explanation...
They make an emergency landing but see the British troops and mistake them for Germans. Before the Brits reach the plane, the crew gets out and hides in the nearby woods (seen in the background on the video) for fear of having the "Germans" capture them.
Later, embarrassed by their mistake, they make up this fairy tale. Or, perhaps, the story is started by the British troops and the crew goes along with it to cover themselves.

I concur this story does not cut it!

Its right up there with the tale of allies using wine in Italy to fuel the jeeps. My dad told me the story and a good friend of mine father told him as well, I think he still believes its true.

Story of a B-17 Flying Fortress that mysteriously landed without its crew.
Sorry, but it's a load of old bunkum...
