DESCRIPTION:
Homemade lifting gantry constructed from 2" steel pipe and an OSHA-approved 2x10 scaffold plank. Chain hoist is rated at 1 ton; the towing strap at 5,000 pounds.

No need for extra support since "gravity always pulls straight down". I understand the concept, but in practice I've found: for every action there's an equal and opposite reaction. I'm glad the project worked out!
