I used a vacuum pump with a glass jar filter like this for many years. If you don't plan on re-using the oil it is a good idea to stuff a screwed up paper towel into the jar to catch the oil and it is an even better idea to vent it to the outside air. Fine oil particles or the solvents in whatever you are degassing, getting in your lungs will do you no good. If you have a good flat metal base there is often no need for a rubber gasket, vaseline or grease works well, but if you use one, cut the centre out or it will expand upwards under a vacuum. A pet cock fitted in the base to control the vacuum is also good and doesn't compromise the strength of the chamber walls. Repco and SCA should sell vacuum hose with walls that won't collapse.
