Magnetic building board---RC Hobby--Any model building project

The old method of using T pins to hold together balsa wood has come to an end for me. Instead I use magnets. Lots of magnets and a large building board made of MDF, Sheet Metal, and for dual use (just in case I want to use T-pins) some cork sheet .250" thick.

Magnets are from HF welding department. They would be the large and small red ones.
Cabinet magnets from eBay make up the chrome plated ones. (great for holding down the prints)
Other brown cabinet type magnets for small parts.
Black rectangular very high power magnets from HF.

There is a bit of flex with the simple MDF underlay but you just need to make sure it is on a nice flat bench when in use. When not in use it hangs on the side of a cabinet in the shop with two .250 holes in the end and two .250 steel dowels in the cabinet side.

The board is about 24" wide by 48" long. I did not have a piece of sheet metal that was large enough for the entire board so I just used two pieces and held them on with counter sunk screws.

    Very handy.

    Cheers, JR

    Thank You Priemsy,
The idea has been around for a while but the choice of magnets was unique to this one.

    Cheers, JR
