My mill has a power feed with a friction clutch with cork gasket material glued to the worm gear - just turn the doorknob to engage or disengage it.

yeah I'd like to see more detail, I need to do my mill someday.
Now I am liking that. I saw some round brake coils on the net somewhere that would be a great fit for my little power feed. Now to just find them.

I removed the shaft of the wiper motor worm gear, the cross hatched part in the middle of the drawing, and bored out its center to run on a shoulder on the inboard one of two steel clutch plates that take the place of the keyed on right handwheel on the end of the feed screw. I tapped the hollow steel shaft of the doorknob to take the place of the handwheel retaining nut, and stuck a coil spring inside it to press the end of the feed screw so they turn together.
Tightening the knob presses the clutch plates together against the cork sheets glued to the faces of the worm gear and the cork has enough spring to push the plates apart when the pressure is removed. The clutch can be set tight or loose enough to slip but only by feel.
It looks like your car seat motor could be modified to work the same way.
