[Cooking]Cookie stamp
Hi,
My son being a passionate pastrycook , I decided to make a cookie stamp for him, with his initials : A M for Antoine Mineau.
I started by sketching the logo on my CAD software, I used only straight sections

Then I took a round piece of aluminum stock and first turned the blank, leaving only the relief for be milled:

It's quite a long process ! ( sooner or later, I'l make a CNC ...)

And then I turned a wooden handle (beech, no finish for cooking tools)

The handle is hold with a stainless steel screw (I drilled the hole a little too deep)

Application :
Rolling the dough. Notice the technic using a couple of 8mm diameter pins in order to set the thickness.

Stamping (very first attempt)

A little olive oil in the stamp helps here

I hope he appreciates the work that daddy put into that cutter. Nicely done. Send me some cookies ASAP

Christophe,
Thank you for another kitchen tool design idea. My wife is always dreaming up kitchen tool designs for me to make as gifts to our friends and neighbors. We can add your cookie stamp to the list.
Thank you,
Paul

those cookies look good hope he made enough for everyone
I like the stamp

Kool Man
Your son will be proud of you Christophe ! now he can create his own signature cookies from scratch !
Awesome !

Thanks everybody for the compliments !
This run was just a test run, and he used a particularly raw sugar in the receipe (that's what makes the brown points and gives a kind of liquorice taste), but the mark would be more visible I think in a standard receipe.
If ever he wants a new logo with curves, I will be obliged to make a CNC !
(Digression:
I must confess I have a particular relationship with digital tools.
Actually, my official job and part of my leisures are entirely made of digital, I work in real time embedded systems, and at home I play a lot with Arduinos, raspberries, and so on. BUT for me this is the easy thing....
My full admiration and only challenge is for craftsmanship, and in the shop, for my personnal satisfaction, I tend to do everything by hand, so :
- You will never se me building or even using a 3D printer or that kind of illusive "tool" that make people think they are makers although they never do nothing by hand and I wonder if they can unblock their sink at home by themselves.
- I could consider making a CNC mill/laser cutter/engraver, essentially for the fun of making it, but also because using a mill, even automatized, keeps necessitating a lot of engineering knowledge and keeps respectable to my eye.
(Alas, I have no room left if the shop for a big machine ... :( )
- For engraving, I am still learning the art of manual engraving, but I must admit that I do not practice enough and could consider to get the help of a digital tool
Amen!

Christophe,
I too think making a homemade CNC project with Arduino G-shield with 3 stepper motor drivers built in would be fun and rewarding project ( https://www.inventables.com/technologies/gshield ). I have considered this type of project for a precision engraver but starting with an X-Carve kit might be easier and simpler.

Now it is time to go into business, he as a beautiful brand and trade mark for his special cookies and all the internet to sell. One step at a time, and who said a person needs culinary school.
Beautiful job
