    [Kitchen tools] Rolling pin

Jon, I'm not sure if we already have a kitchen tool category ?

I like doing my own kitchen tools, here is a first example :

This one was made from a section of table leg, out of beech wood.
It is a king size one, larger than whatever we can commonly purchase here in France.

Beech wood is actually one of the rare official species completely safe for food contact.
There is no finish, no need for that in the kitchen.

Yes, we have a Culinary category. We'll get this one added shortly.

Is that a groove on either end? If so, was that originally in the table leg, or was it added?

    Hi Jon,
I didn't think about the word culinary, I'm sorry.
The little grooves at bot ends are just for decorative purpose, I made them, burning with a wire, while I was on the lathe.
I Just cleaned up the cylinder on the lathe and finished properly both ends with the rounded edge. So I couldn't refrain from adding some personal decoration ...
Actually, it is prone to catch flour and dough, I just took the picture in the kitchen while my son was doing some pastries.
(I guess we will eat something good tonight :oP )
    Cheers !
    Christophe

I have made a few rolling pins but never one without handles on the sides. I really like how yours turned out! Interesting fact about the beechwood to! i use beeswax as a sealer, I am not a fan of chemical finishes on surfaces that see food. Beechwood sounds like a much better way to go.
