1-3 Ton Shop Hoist

So it has been a while since I have built anything worthy of posting, but I just completed a hoist for the ventilated shop space and it might be of interest for some here. The first picture is my initial drawing, based on the materials I had available. It changed as heavier material became available.
My trolley and chain hoist are both 1 ton but the I beam and mounting can except up to a 3 ton trolley and hoist, if the need arises. It was a quick project that generated lots of pictures. You can see the full build here Hobby Workshop Projects: workshop hoist.

Hi Carlos B,

You did a fine job on that hoist, nice solid welds. Your install pulls everything together nice. I'd say you've got yourself a nice shop coming together also. That hoist is going to be a very useful tool for some time I'm sure. I've been looking for some similar design ideas and yours is very inspiring. Clean and solid. I'll bet that lawn tractor lift didn't even make it creak. Hehee. Very good work Carlos, Thanks for Sharing and enjoy your fine Hoist.

Well designed and executed hoist Carlos B! Your write up on your blog has good details as I wondered how the beams were anchored on the floor.

Thanks PJs, I guess you read the ventilated shop build thread. Yes I pulled two patio stones dug down 5' (below frost [most of the time ] here) through part of a broken patio stone in the bottom, lined up my post and filled the hole with concrete. The shaped patio stone you see around the post is the top of the pour.
