Not sure if the teeth he lost was the result of the crash, or just good British teeth.

He needed to pull his rip cord just before going over the edge than his chute might have had time to deploy

Fred was an American. Contemporary reports said that he was rushed to a hospital after his landing, so his toothless grin (and clean sweater) likely predated this stunt.

Actually safer would be to use a static line. Guarantees that the chute comes out when expected. Still might need to use a fast opening setup.

Since it actually says "1926 Los Angeles California" at the beginning of the film, I'd say Freddie is an American in America. Gotta love the "sound effects", at least parts of the film are silent. The jingle of the straps and the sound of him "starting" the bike with an electric starter. He's obviously shifting the already running bike into gear. The sound of the footsteps of the man running to the crash site. Very exaggerated and clear, unlike any other film of the time. And why isn't there more of a ramp at take off? Spring assisted deployment of the chute? No head protection or any other safety gear? Looks more like a suicide attempt than a parachute test.

And the electric wires next to the landing point, not to mention the road. Crazy!
