    Work or starve with impending depression. Must have cost him (ok okdon't say an arm or a leg) a bomb in those days. Surely prosthetic items were out of working class finance realms in that era? I knew a guy in 1970's who upgraded his wooden leg for an aluminium prosthetic and he was wealthy but it was the only time I heard him complain about money.

    For every tool there's a process. The first guy is oxy welding not cutting. If he were cutting free hand then no DOUBT that there would be an additional piece fitted. He at least has parameters covered unlike his mate/observer who doesn't have his safety green tinted specs on..I have my Fathers pair safely stowed away...I keep them for steam punk parties. I also used to work for a program

    Disabled. I joined in 2000 when I saw a fellow carry his legless mate up 5 flights of stairs. The Olympic elevators were constantly full. He put him in a harness backpack style and strapped his legs onto the sides. I said to my wife
    ....that what I want to do. Th eere are so many brilliant minds working on aids for the disabled. Perhaps not as early as this shot. War and it's wounds brought medicine out of the dark ages...just saying
